| Description: |
This project is a collaboration project
with Intel Network Processing Group in Penang to study Internet networking
architecture with IPv6 protocol suite implementation for next generation
communications applications. At present, many routing table look-up algorithms
are available for IPv4, such as classical binary search, hashing, tree and
radix-based look-up algorithms to modern Optimal Routing Table Constructor,
Longest Matching Prefix, Binary Tree Collapse, Controlled Prefix Expansion
and Radix Trie. However, the performance of many of these routing table
look-up algorithms over IPv6 is still unknown and yet to be determined.
As IPv6 architecturally differ with IPv4 in quite numerous ways, such as
IPv6 uses 128 bits to store IP addresses whereas IPv4 uses 32 bits, it is
likely that direct implementation of the existing IPv4 routing table look-up
algorithms into IPv6 may not be optimised and potentially there should be
space for improvement. In this research, we are looking into the possibility
of improving the performance of the routing table look-up algorithms. |
