Criteria & Guidelines for Awards

Microsoft Software Engineering Gold & Silver Medal Awards

The process for selecting the Microsoft's "Software Engineering Award" recipient each year is as follows:

  1. A list of the top 10 students each from FIT and FIST eligible for graduation in that year will be selected based on their overall CGPA. These students should major in Software Engineering or Information Systems Engineering.
  2. From the 20 short-listed students, students with the highest and second highest average grade points of the following subjects will be awarded the Microsoft Software Engineering Gold and Silver Medals, respectively:
    • Computer Programming I
    • Computer Programming II
    • Data Structures and Algorithms
    • Object-Oriented Programming
    • Software Engineering
    • System Analysis and Design
    • Algorithm Analysis
    • Database Systems
  3. If there is a tie, students' final year project marks will be considered.
  4. If there is a tie again, both Deans of FIT and FIST will discuss and decide on the final recipients of the medals, based on the ranked student list in (2).
